Recently, there has been an increase in requests for the transportation of construction and special equipment from the United States to Ukraine. This is not surprising, as there is a great need for such equipment in the country. We are approached by clients from the United States who want to transfer humanitarian aid, as well as clients from Ukraine who buy used construction and special equipment in America for their own needs.
How was the process?
This time, our task was to organize the transportation of humanitarian aid – a CAT D6T forklift from the United States. The first step was to organize sea freight from the American port, as the sender transported the forklift to the port on his own. There are two options for sea transportation: RoRo or containerized.
RoRo transportation is used when the equipment is on the move and can drive itself into the hold of a ship. There it is attached to the floor and transported without the use of containers. RoRo transportation is carried out on special ships with a folding stern. In addition, not all ports work with RoRo service, so when choosing this type of sea transportation, it is necessary to check the ports of departure and receipt for the ability to accept such vessels. Container transportation of oversized cargo is usually carried out under the following conditions:
1. When the equipment is not on the move and cannot get on board the vessel on its own.
2. In some cases, this method may be cheaper than RoRo, depending on where the equipment is located in the United States and where the recipient is located in Ukraine.

In this case, the forklift was on the move, so they chose RoRo service for sea transportation to the European port of Bremerhaven.
The second and final stage in this case was intra-port operations and loading the forklift onto the trawl for further land transportation to Ukraine.
