How was the process?
The client carried out the transportation to Ukraine on his own, so our work ended in the port of Bremerhaven.
What kind of logistics work we performed:
1. Ground transportation within the United States.
The tractor was physically located at the Seller’s premises on the west coast of America. The closest ports in that area are Los Angeles and Seattle. It would be logical to assume that the sea transportation should be carried out through one of these ports, rather than transporting the equipment by land to a more distant port.
However, our 10 years of experience shows otherwise. The unpredictable operation of the US West Coast ports, the high risk of additional costs, which are much higher than the cost of land transportation to another, remote port, turn the process of cargo transportation into a lottery for both the carrier and the client. That’s why we developed a route through a more predictable and reliable port, which was located 1600 miles away, and transported the Challenger MT865E tractor there on a trawl for further sea transportation. And we offer to learn more about the transportation of equipment in the United States here.
If you are considering sea transportation of your goods through ports on the west coast of the United States, we invite you to a consultation where we will share our experience with you and provide recommendations on developing the most optimal transportation route in terms of both cost and time.
2. Sea freight. The tractor was on the move and could get on board the ship on its own, so we chose RoRo for sea transportation. This is when the equipment enters the ship on its own, and is attached to the floor in the hold. In Ro-Ro transportation, no containers are used, only floor mounts. Read more about Ro-Ro transportation on this page. It is worth noting that not all ports work with Ro-Ro vessels, so when choosing a port of departure, you should check the technical capabilities of this type of transportation.
3. Intra-port operations. In the port of Bremerhaven, Germany, we performed intra-port forwarding and loaded the tractor onto the client’s trawl for further land transportation to Ukraine, more details are available here.
