Organization of transportation of John Deere S670 combine harvester from South Dakota to Bremerhaven
The Client purchased a John Deere S670 combine harvester in the United States and entrusted us with its transportation. Our task was to organize transportation from the Seller's door in South Dakota, USA, to the port of Bremerhaven, Germany.
How was the process?
What kind of work we did:
– We developed a route. To do this, we found out what type of sea transportation we would use: container or RoRo. This determines the choice of the port of departure in America. In addition, we found out that the combine has very wide singles, which means that we had to obtain a permit of the appropriate level.
It should be noted that to transport any large oversized agricultural machinery, you need to obtain a permit for land transportation in the United States. We talk more about this method of transportation here. However, the cost of the permit depends on the weight and dimensions. We always do everything necessary to optimize the cargo, as this directly affects the cost of permits.
So, in this case, we worked with the combine’s hubs in such a way as to save the client’s money on permits and at the same time fully comply with the requirements of American law.
– Delivered the trawl to the Seller’s premises in South Dakota. We loaded the combine onto the trawl and transported it to the port of departure for further sea shipment.
– The harvester was on the move, so they chose RoRo service for sea transportation to the port of Bremerhaven, Germany. The advantage of RoRo service is that the combine drives into the hold of the vessel and is attached to the floor. Therefore, no container is used in such transportation. At the client’s request, the sea freight was insured. The insurance of sea freight is always solely the client’s wish. Someone is ready to spend extra money on sea freight insurance, while someone is ready to take the risk. We offer the possibility of insurance in cases where we know about the high probability of storms and hurricanes, or when the equipment is very expensive, but the decision is always made by the client. It is worth noting that we have not had any insured events due to hurricanes or storms in sea freight in our practice, but the risk still remains.
– We met the combine in Germany in the port of Bremerhaven, where we performed intra-port work and loaded the combine onto a trawl for transportation to Ukraine.
