Organization of transportation of John Deere 9550 combine harvester from America

The Client purchased a John Deere 9550 combine harvester in the United States and entrusted us with its transportation to Ukraine. Our task was to organize the transportation from the Seller's door in Nebraska, USA, to the Buyer's door in Odesa region, Ukraine.

How was the process?

What kind of logistics work we performed:

1. Land transportation across the territory of America. We selected a trawl that was technically suitable for the transportation of the John Deere 9550 combine. We issued transportation permits, taking into account the weight and dimensions of the cargo. At the Seller’s premises in Nebraska, we loaded the combine onto the trawl and transported it to the port.

2. The harvester was on the move and could drive itself on board the ship, so we chose Ro-Ro for sea transportation. This is when the equipment drives on board the vessel on its own, and is attached to the floor in the hold. In Ro-Ro transportation, no containers are used, only floor mounts. Read more about Ro-Ro transportation here. It is worth noting that not all ports work with Ro-Ro vessels, so when choosing a port of departure, you should check the technical capabilities of this type of transportation.

In addition, transit time was extremely important for the client. It was necessary to deliver the combine to Ukraine as soon as possible. For our part, we are making every effort to do our job as quickly as possible. However, there are processes that do not depend on us. Namely:

– the availability and accessibility of trawls and drivers in America. Anyone who has ever dealt with oversized transportation in the United States knows about the market congestion and possible delays;
– the speed of ship departures from US ports. There are different periods of congestion, changes in schedules may occur;
– cut off dates.

Therefore, we cannot and never do guarantee transit times. We can only calculate the approximate delivery time and track the progress of the work.

We always advise our clients to consult us first about transit time and what they can expect. Unfortunately, very often we have to take off our clients’ «pink glasses» and tell them the truth so that they understand the realities and plan their actions correctly.

In this case, the delivery of the Ro-Ro service to the port of Bremerhaven, Germany, was made close to the desired transit time, which we drew the client’s attention to, which was very lucky in some ways, but we would not advise taking such risks.

3. Intra-port forwarding and loading onto a trawl for further transportation to Ukraine was carried out in the port of Bremerhaven, Germany.

4. The last stage was overland transportation by trawl from the port of Bremerhaven, Germany, to the customer’s door in Odesa Oblast, Ukraine.
