Container transportation from America
Is there a difference in which American port to ship containers through?
It’s huge. Imagine this situation.
There are 2 American ports:
1. In one, the rate for transportation is lower. However, due to the huge workload, there is a high risk of additional costs, which may be even higher than the rate in the second port.
2. The same second port. The rate is slightly higher than in the first one, but there is almost zero probability of additional costs.
Which port will you choose to ship your container?
For our part, we always advise you to choose a more reliable option, where the rate is known for sure, and the risk of additional costs is minimal. That is the second option.
However, the client always makes the final decision. This is exactly what happened recently. The client chose the first option, where the risk was huge, and unfortunately, it was realized. The additional costs exceeded the rate in the second port.
Of course, no one likes to pay more. It’s unpleasant.
We concluded that we needed to explain to the client more convincingly that it was not worth the risk. Or refuse such transportation altogether. Because in the end, the client believes that it is our fault, despite all the warnings about the risk. And we don’t need it. Because the value of long-term cooperation is not just talk for us.
